Cosmetic independence day or real independence day Every year we celebrate the two hours in the morning of 15th august as Independence Day, only two hours and then the rest of the day is a holiday, we enjoy- malls , movies , friends, eye. Cosmetic is the word. Year after year , the same ritual, the same manner, the same spirit. Songs of nationalistic fervor are pulled out of the closet , dusted ,played in the morning and put back again. The children in schools and colleges are also being conditioned on the same lines. Sad but true. Freedom has become a 2 hour per annum affair like a Hollywood flick. Cut to present. Anna Hazare's Fight against Corruption has raised a lot of eyebrows and the youth of the country are actually coming forward in large numbers and registering their presence physically, out of their own will. These are two contrasting scenes . One one hand there is a dwindling interest in the cosmetic nationalistic celebrations in the youth and on the other hand , there is a renewed vigor in actual acts if heroism a la Anna . In these times, it is the responsibility of governments and politicians to understand the public pulse and not rave and rant on their own ideologies and the white kurta pajama culture which is again cosmetic in nature. Do the youth actually feel that 16th august is the real independence day as against 15th august. Time to rethink!!!
